Jadeite is a sodium aluminum silicate mineral which has a polycrystalline structure. The hardness is 6.5-7 on the Mohsâ€™ scale, the average specific gravity value is 3.33, and the refractive index is approximately 1.66. The various colours of Jadeite are caused by the presence of chromium, iron and/or manganese transitional elements.
The Hong Kong jewellery trader has classified the nature of Jadeite (also known as Fei Cui Jadeite Jade) into four types:
Type A: Natural jadeite that has not been subjected to any form of chemical treatment to alter the appearance and structure of the stone.
